'Godfather' actor Carmine Caridi dead at 85

American actor Carmine Caridi has passed away at the age of 85 after falling into a comatose state on Wednesday, May 29th.

While the cause of his health battle is unclear, TMZ reported that Caridi "never regained consciousness while he was in the hospital" at Cedars-Sinai hospital in L.A.

Chazz Palminteri, an actor and producer was a close friend of Caridi, confirmed his death earlier today.

Caridi appeared in a variety of films and television shows over the past 30 years, but was best known for his role as Carmine Rosati in the first sequel to "The Godfather" and as Albert Volpe in "The Godfather Part III." He is one of three actors to play two different roles in the "Godfather" films.

The actor also starred in "Starsky and Hutch," "Taxi," "Fame" and "Simon & Simon." His last TV appearance was on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" as Uncle Murray.
