Johnny Depp could face 10 years in prison over dog mishap

According to local reports, actor Johnny Depp may face time in prison over his decision to sneak his dogs into Australia without clearance.

Depp was supposed to get an import permit, which would have required his pups undergo a mandatory 10-day quarantine, but he didn't.

Authorities told him to send his two Yorkshire Terriers back to America, or the country would euthanize them.

"If you start letting movie stars, even though they've been the sexiest man alive twice, to come into our nation, then why don't we just break the laws for everybody?" Barnaby Joyce, Australia's minister of agriculture, said.

Depp sent the dogs home safe and sound, but the Hollywood heartthrob might not be as lucky as he could face some serious legal trouble.

An Australian committee was told if the case goes to court, Depp could face up to ten years in prison and a $340,000 fine, according to The Guardian.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports Depp's pilot isn't off the hook and could face up to two years in prison for "undeclared importing."

Depp was filming "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" in Australia.
