Man arrested for racist rant captured in viral video, cries in mug shot

A 35-year-old Connecticut man faces charges after directing a racist, obscene rant at a Muslim family on a beach.

Alexander Jennes Downing, who was visiting South Padre Island, Texas was arrested when police were notified of his tirade.

Noria Alward, a member of the family that was harassed, shared a video of Downing and explained what happened on Facebook:

"The insane man came close to the kids and that's when my uncle stood up to him and defended us and the kids, including my 4 year old cousin, 4 and 2 year old nephews," Alward wrote. "The video here shows a glimpse of what we all had to experience."

The video displays Downing yelling expletives at the family, including young children, and talking about President Donald Trump. "You're a f------ Muslim, motherf-----."

Another person tried to push him away but he said, "You will never ever, ever, stop me, my Christianity, from rising above your Sharia law. Your Sharia law don't [sic] mean s--- to me." He continued, "Donald Trump will stop you."

Alward explained on Facebook that her family attempted several times to call police; after a 20 minute rant, Downing left them alone. Police later arrested him in a hotel restaurant.

"Overall we enjoyed the lovely island and we will definitely go back to South Padre again, we surely will never go back to Pearl South Padre hotel, Texas again," Alward said.

Downing was arrested that day, May 3, on charges of public intoxication.
