2036: Ivanka Trump vs. Chelsea Clinton for president?

Politics can often run in multiple generations of families like the Bushes, the Kennedys, and the Pauls, with Senator Rand Paul and his father, former Congressman Ron Paul.

As such, it's not entirely inconceivable that a couple decades after their parents' contentious election, Ivanka Trump and Chelsea Clinton could run against each other for president of the United States in 2036 or another election cycle thereabouts.

President Trump's daughter recently announced that she would be taking an official job in the White House to allay ethics concerns but would carry out her advisory role without pay, reports CNN.

But even before accepting a formal position, Ivanka was active in her father's administration; she was present during White House meetings with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, she has met with small business owners in Baltimore, and she toured a Boeing facility with her father and her husband Jared Kushner, a senior adviser to the president.

Ivanka has also expressed her support for women's and family issues like reportedly advocating for a child care tax benefit, according to Bloomberg.

Politico suggested in early December that she may be interested in making climate change one of her signature issues.

Meanwhile, when Chelsea Clinton was born, her father Bill Clinton was governor of Arkansas and she was 12 when he first became president, so she has spent her entire life in the public eye.

Chelsea has graduated from multiple prestigious universities including Stanford, Columbia, and Oxford and eventually went to work for her family's philanthropic organization, the Clinton Foundation.

Speculation about her potential political aspirations has been continuing since her mother's election loss to Donald Trump, with different media outlets suggesting that Chelsea may try to run for Congress to replace New York Representative Nita Lowey or the state's U.S. Senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, should they vacate their seats.

She has also posted political messages on Twitter, writing recently about the ivory trade and closing the wage gap.

Chelsea recently denied that she currently has plans to run for office, but she did seem to leave the door open for a future candidacy.

Interestingly, both she and Ivanka have said they are sill friends, though they reportedly didn't keep in touch during the election.
