Study: Your hair dye may be increasing your risk of breast cancer

A new study suggests that women who frequently dye their hair are at greater risk of getting breast cancer.

A breast cancer surgeon at Princess Grace Hospital in London found a 14% increase in the disease for women who color their hair, according to the Sunday Time of London.

The New York Post says that although further study needs to be done, it is suggested that women should only dye their hair up to five times a year.

Sanna Heikkenen of the Finnish Cancer Registry says that, “it might be, for example, that women who use hair dyes also use other cosmetics more than women who reported never using hair dyes.”

While it is still unclear if the products are a direct cause of the disease, haircare professionals say that women should touch up their hair color every four to six weeks.
