NYFW: Leanne Marshall's whimsical Spring/Summer 2018 collection

Updated

Leanne Marshall took us for a ride for her Spring 2018 collection.

The young designer and Project Runway winner is frequently renowned for her delicate dresses, soft chromatic themes and intricate bridal gowns, so we were expecting something similar when she debuted her new line at New York Fashion Week.

Instead, we saw another side of Leanne Marshall: A mix of expressive bold colors (hot magentas, deep oranges, flamingo pinks and lagoon greens) mixed with uncompromising patterns and textured arrangments that weren't present in her past seasons.

It seems stripes mixed with block colors and diamond-shaped cutouts were a frequent go-to of the collection.

The designer also incorporated differing silhouettes too, from drop waists to one-shoulder gowns, v-neck tops and asymmetrical ruffled skirts took the runway on models big and small. Marshall's models were some of the more diverse talent we've seen this Fashion Week, an aspect the show's audience welcomed with reverberating cheers and synchronized claps.

Marshall also dabbled in silk, varying types of chiffon and ruffles -- as well as open backs and nude illusion pieces. It's safe to say Marshall is jumping straight to spring with her stronger-than-ever collection -- these pieces are making us mourn the loss of sunnier days.
