Marriott buys Starwood, becomes world's largest hotel chain

If you're booking your next vacation and looking for a room with a view chances are you'll be staying at a Marriott hotel.

The hotel chain just went from huge to giant after completing the yearlong 12.2 billion dollar purchase of Starwood Hotels.

The deal joins Marriott's signature hotel courtyard and Ritz Carleton with Starwood's Sheraton, Westin, W and St. Regis properties.

The move makes Marriott the largest hotel chain in the world with 1.1 million properties, which means the odds of you staying at a Marriott hotel on your next vacation are one in fifteen.

However, don't expect all Marriott hotels to now look and feel the same.

Marriott CEO said in a statement, "we're trying to make sure we provide as clear a distinction as we can between the brands in terms of product and service so that our customers can have a sense of what each brand stands for."

As for loyalty points, members can link their accounts but, for now, redeeming points is at a three to one ratio. This might not be the most exciting news for customers, but hey, there's always Air BnB!
