Dylann Roof's sister arrested for bringing weapon to school after posting threatening Snapchat message

Morgan Roof, the sister of the Charleston Church shooter Dylann Roof, was arrested on Wednesday for being in possession of weapons at school.

WIS News reports that the 18-year-old A.C. Flora High School student in Columbia, South Carolina was charged with simple possession of marijuana and two counts of carrying weapons on school grounds. Morgan Roof was given a $5,000 bond with the stipulation that she not return to the school.

On Wednesday, a tip from a student about a cryptic message Roof posted on her Snapchat raised concerns for the student body during the National Student Walkout.

On Snapchat, a screenshot from the teenage student’s social media post revealed her disapproval of the walkout and what she desired to happen.

“Your walking out for the allowed time of 17min,” younger Roof wrote, “they are letting you do this, nothing is gonna change what tf you think it’s gonna do? [sic]”

“I hope it’s a trap and y’all get shot,” it continued, “we know’s it’s fixing to be nothing but black people walkin out anyway.”

The School Resource Officer at her school was contacted by the school administrator the same day, stating that Roof had marijuana, pepper spray, and a knife with her on school grounds.

Susan Childs, A.C. Flora’s principal, released a statement for parents and students online Wednesday:

“A rumor then started that a certain student had a weapon. This was heavily investigated and found to be inaccurate. In a separate situation, a student used social media to post a hateful message. The posting was not a threat, but was extremely inappropriate. That student was dealt with in a swift and severe manner as the posting caused quite a disruption.”

She continued, “In an isolated incident yesterday, administration was notified that there was possibly a weapon on campus.
