Megyn Kelly slammed for saying that 'some' women 'want' to be fat-shamed

Megyn Kelly is facing criticism for a comment she made during Thursday's episode of "Megyn Kelly Today."

While interviewing "Fit Mom" Maria Kang about weight loss, Kelly remarked that "some" women "want" to be fat-shamed.

"You should parlay the shaming thing into a professional business, because some of us want to be shamed!" Kelly interjected. "When I was in law school, I was gaining weight, I said to my stepfather, 'If you see me going into that kitchen one more time, you say, 'Where you going, fat ass?'' And it works!"

Kang didn't appear to be bothered by Kelly's comments -- in fact, she said that her husband does something similar "all the time."

"My husband does that to me all the time," said Kang. "I tell him my goals and if it's early in the morning and he sees me still in bed, he's like 'what are you doing in here.'"

The comment wasn't taken lightly on Twitter, either. "The View" co-host Meghan McCain was the first high-profile personality to criticize Kelly for her statement, tweeting that "there are real life ramifications for fat shaming of any kind."

"I was publicly fat shammed early on in my career and it sent me to therapy," McCain said. "Trust me, there are real life ramifications for fat shaming of any kind, it is NEVER acceptable. We should be fostering a healthy culture that celebrates all women of all sizes."

Others called the comments "masochistic," "sad," "unhealthy" and "cringeworthy."

"Megyn seems to be having a hard time understanding her daytime female audience," one critic added.
