Blue wine has finally arrived to make your summer drinking dreams come true

Move over, rosé.

The hottest new drink of summer '16 has arrived, and it's unlike anything we've ever seen before.

Get ready to meet Gik, the world's first blue wine -- and no, it's nothing like your garden variety chardonnay.

Created by young Spanish entrepreneurs Iñigo Alday, Imanol López, Jen Besga, Gorka Maiztegi, and Aritz López, Gik is created from a blend of red and white grapes from various parts of Spain.

But ... why is it blue?

Well, from a scientific perspective, the 11.5% ABV drink is colored with anthocyanin, a pigment found in grape skin, and indigo, a plant-based die.

But from Gik's creators' perspectives, the beverage is blue because "why not?"

GIK was "born for fun," according to the company's website. "To shake things up a bit and see what happens. To create something new. Something different."

Unfortunately, the Smurf elixir is not available in the U.S. just yet, but the company is reportedly focused on rapidly expanding to other countries.

Hopefully by July 4 next year, patriotic Americans will be able to raise a glass to the red white and blue -- with a glass of red, white or blue.
