Halloween Parade, Decorating Contest Take Over Decatur

The Haints and Saints Parade is on Oct. 26, while the deadline to turn in a photo for the city's decorating contest is Oct. 27.

You still have time to decorate for Halloween and enter the city’s contest. Or, plan to take part in Decatur’s annual Haints and Saints car cruise or parade.

Residents and businesses are invited to decorate for Halloween and submit a photo to specialevents@decaturga.com by noon on Monday, Oct. 27. Include your name and address.

Judges will make their decision Monday evening and the winners will be posted on the City of Decatur website, the Downtown Decatur Facebook page, and on www.thedecaturminute.com blog.

Winners will receive a special yard sign to display throughout the week and one stand-out location will win the coveted Commissioner’s Cauldron trophy to keep on display for the entire year.

Haints and Saints

HOMEGROWN announced that the annual HAINTS AND SAINTS Parade, sponsored by Atlanta’s own Voice Of The Arts, AM 1960, will be held on Sunday, Oct. 26.

The event begins at noon with the HAINTS AND SAINTS Classic Car and Hearse Cruise In at the Calloway Building parking lot on the corner of Trinity and Commerce.

Line up for the HAINTS & SAINTS Halloween Parade begins at 3 p.m. for vehicles and floats at the Decatur Post office, located at 520 W.Ponce de Leon Ave., followed by the walkers at 3:30. Anyone may walk or roll in the parade; floats, bands, and groups larger than 5 can register online atwww.decaturhalloweenparade.com. As the parade begins at 4 p.m., the police will do a rolling closure in front of the parade. Baton Bob will be on hand, dressed in his own black silk top hat, Maury Mable style, to lead the way.

As the parade wraps up, let the HAINTS & SAINTS Jam commence! Bands, including, Wasted Potential Brass Band, Black Sheep Ensemble, Mercury Orkestar, The Porch Bottom Boys and Scofflaw will take turns jamming in the Gazebo on the square.

All proceeds will benefit The HomeGrown Grant for the Arts and will be administered through the Decatur Education Foundation and Decatur Arts Alliance, with a focus on Arts education and seed grant funding for emerging artists. A group of select local artists have tricked out a vintage fridge, soda machine turned into beer cooler and an amazing custom corn hole board set. Yours for the bidding.
