The Decatur City Commission discussed its plans for annexation this week, where members of the Decatur Terrace neighborhood submitted a petition to be included in Decatur’s Master Annexation Plan.

According to a report from Decatur Metro, the neighborhood is currently a part of an Avondale annexation plan, but residents have requested removal from that plan.

Neighborhood representative Renee Valdes said at the meeting that 86 percent of all 110 Decatur Terrace residents support the request to join Decatur’s plans for annexation, and an even higher percentage stand behind just the removal from Avondale’s annexation plans.

Located next to the Derrydown neighborhood between College and Craige avenues, Decatur Terrace is the second neighborhood to request removal from Avondale’s annexation map. Rio Circle submitted a petition to the Decatur City Commission on Oct. 6, according to Decaurish.com.
