Here's More Proof That Sugar Is Really Bad for Kids

Here's the thing, while it's not exactly new information that highly sugary foods are "bad" for us -- recent evidence may have just uncovered something that adds to why we should be paying attention. According to new information on obesity discovered by a research group at the University of California, San Fransisco, calories from sugar simply are not the same as calories from anything else.

After discovering a connection between added sugar consumption and health conditions like cardiovascular disease, it begged researchers to ask the question "does cutting excess sugar out of our diets reverses metabolic syndrome?"

The research group at UCSF studied 43 children with obesity and metabolic syndrome over a 10-day period with a special non-ingredient -- no added sugar. The results were shocking, to say the least.

In other words, their over health was significantly better thanks to a complete decrease in sugar. The absolutely fascinated part of this experiment to remember, is that they weren't giving them leafy greens or extremely healthy foods to eat -- they simply fed them processed foods, just those without sugar.

According to Lustig, the study clearly demonstrated that a calorie is not simply JUST a calorie. Apparently, sugar is a primary contributor to obesity and by removing added sugar, it improves overall metabolic health.
