Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus receive honorary diplomas

Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus, two of the girls held captive by Ariel Castro, now have honorary high school degrees.

John Marshall High School presented them with degrees at the school's commencement ceremony. That's where Amanda was attending when she was abducted in 2003 at the age of 16...and Gina would have attended that school had she not been kidnapped when she was 14 in 2004.

Amanda says the ceremony was "awesome." She told the Cleveland Plain Dealer, "I always wanted to grow up and be somebody and do something with my life, you know? I always planned to graduate, and my mom always wanted that for me, to see me cross the stage. So this means everything to me."

And students in attendance were thrilled to watch the girls accept their degrees.

One student Instagramed a photo of it with the caption, "Gina N Amanda You Guys [Are] An Inspiration To Everyone."

And another tweeted, "we graduated with Amanda berry & Gina Dejesus Marshall's 2k15 graduation will NEVER be topped."

The girls say that they are now working on getting their GEDs.
