Donald Trump, never one to shy away from controversy, shared his thoughts on Monday's riots in Baltimore.

He tweeted, "Our great African American President hasn't exactly had a positive impact on the thugs who are so happily and openly destroying Baltimore!"

Not surprisingly, the Twitter post triggered a social media firestorm with comments like:

"So very rude and racist very disappointed in you Mr. Trump"

Another user said, "Shhhhhh nobody is interested in what you have to say".

Another said, "Time to unplug your Twitter account, Donald."

One user requested Trump to "please run for president. And don't take this as I will vote for you. That won't happen. I just want the hilarity."

Trump went on to criticize the city's mayor on handling of the situation, "The Mayor of Baltimore said she wanted to give the rioters "space to destroy" - another real genius!" Over a dozen police officers were injured and many stores were looted during Monday's riots.
