Demi Lovato is playing it cool.

After fans reacted to her new song, "Cool for the Summer," by comparing it to Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl," Lovato is defending her lyrics.

"Cool for the Summer" features suggestive lyrics about a fling with another woman. "Got my mind on your body/And your body on my mind/Got a taste for the cherry/ I just need to take a bite/Don't tell your mother/Kiss one another/Die for each other/We're cool for the summer," Lovato sings.

These lyrics were compared to Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl," "I kissed a girl and I liked it/the taste of her cherry chapstick."

Lovato addressed the situation on Twitter: "Sounds nothing like it and with all the advances we've made in the LGBT community..."

She added, "I think more than one female artist can kiss a girl and like it," with a wink emoji.

Lovato's lyrics "Take me down into your paradise" also drew comparisons to "Rock my world until the sunlight" in Jessie J's "Domino."

When Lovato filled in for Ariana Grande for a performance of "Bang Bang" in December, Jessie J admitted that she's been wanting to perform with Lovato "forever."

On Wednesday, Lovato was OK comparing herself to a couple other female powerhouses -- Rihanna and Nicki Minaj.

"There's nobody in the pop industry that says, 'Don't f**k with me,'" she told Ryan Seacrest. "There's Rihanna and Nicki Minaj. Those two women, they're like, 'I'll kick your f**king a**.' And that's the thing. I'm totally that, but in pop music. Not that they're not pop music, but it's just kind of a different world."
