Although the United States of America is one of the most developed countries in the world, that is not the case in terms of maternity leave. Out of the 196 countries in the world, there are 7 countries that do not have laws about paid maternity leave. The U.S. is the only developed country in that group of 7. Only 11% of women who work at private companies received paid leave. The U.S. however does guarantee 12 weeks of unpaid maternity leave with job security. Other countries around the world not only offer longer time off, but other helpful benefits like family allowances and maternity care packages.
