Facebook users come to the defense of plus-sized, bullied teen

Bullies often use social media to pick on their targets, but there are plenty of others who are more than willing to stand up for the individual being harassed.One Tennessee teenager learned how much strangers can care after an unpleasant exchange on Facebook.

18-year-old Kristen Layne was trying to sell her junior prom dress on the group page called "For Sale in Sumner County, TN". Not long after she posted the dress, two males began commenting about her appearance, specifically her weight. Layne explained "I was trying to sell my prom dress, and these two men were just saying some very hateful things, I guess just telling me I was fat and that I wasn't beautiful." She didn't know either man.

Only minutes after the two strangers posted the nasty comments, other users typed up their own, and those messages were extremely kind and defensive of Layne. Beautiful and stunning are just a few choice words that were directed at her. The simple post about a prom dress for sale garnered hundreds of likes in a short period of time. And it shows her that although strangers can be mean, far more of them are just the opposite.

Layne launched a gofundme page to help her buy a new dress for her senior prom. She set a 350 dollar goal but instead raised over $2,000 in only 2 days.
