Royals to US media: Keep calm during William and Kate's visit ... and dress smart

The British Royal family has instructed the unwashed American media masses on the proper way to dress when in the presence of Prince William and Princess Kate during their visit next month to the States.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit America on December 7 and 8, and any news media, including media crew such as cameramen, wishing to be in their presence -- even on U.S. soil -- are required to wear formal attire.

"Journalists wishing to cover Royal engagements, whether in the United Kingdom or abroad, should comply with the dress code on formal occasions out of respect for the guests of The Queen, or any other member of the Royal Family," the Royal press office said in a memo obtained by Politico.

"Smart attire for men includes the wearing of a jacket and tie, and for women a trouser or skirt suit," the palace insisted.

"Those wearing jeans or trainers will not be admitted and casually dressed members of the media will be turned away. This also applies to technicians."

Technicians include cameramen, sound mixers and the people who hold the boom microphones –- they are expected to wear a suit and tie.

Taking pictures "in the wrong places," walking backwards and texting have also been forbidden while in the presence of the Royals.

The strict dress code, apparently, did not apply to a Maori warrior who greeted the Royals during a tour of Australia earlier this year.

William and Kate plan to visit Washington, D.C. and New York during their brief sojourn to the former 13 colonies.

Twitter reacted to these demands in a less than favorable way.
